Here are a few pictures from a short stay in Mallorca. In May 2000, we visited Barcelona and Mallorca, for four days before taking a barge cruise in France. We were very impressed with Barcelona; it's unlike any other city in Spain. We weren't so impressed with Mallorca. Our vision of a sleepy little island was shattered when we arrived at Palma Airport, one of the largest and busiest in Europe. The island is packed with English and German tourists on holiday. On the positive side, everything from food to hotels is very reasonable and the beaches are beautiful. Mallorca is just a short and inexpensive flight from Barcelona. Some people just fly there on a day trip, but I recommend that you spend at least a couple of days there. We stayed at Scott's Hotel and can recommend it if you're looking for a quiet, extremely well decorated hotel with a bed and breakfast atmosphere. Scott's is centrally located and serves as a good base for exploring the island with a rental car. The proprietor, George Scott is a published author of mystery novels and quite a character. There's no doubt that George will sell you one of his novels before you leave his hotel! When we stayed there, Scott's was (and still may be) the only hotel in a very small and authentic Spanish town. It's not the place for people who are looking for wild nightlife or for a beach side resort. If you would rather be at a beach side resort, there are many to choose from. The southeast part of the island has the beaches that we like the most. In two days, we drove all over the North, East and South part of the island. We wanted to see as much as we could in the short time we were there. Here are some of my favorite pictures from our time on the island. |

Palma
nova is just west of Palma. There are many inexpensive hotels and
restaurants there. Below, Alcudia is a walled town on the northern end of
the island.

| I hope you enjoyed the few pictures that I have of Mallorca. I'm sorry that I didn't take more, and I'm sorry that we didn't plan to spend a few days at one of the many beach hotels on the island. | ||||
